Dolgo Foraging

It's officially apple season, y'all! We've received our first batches of summer apples from our growers and Daniel is out doing some select foraging of local crab apples.

After a really awful crop last year (90% loss in Colorado due to weather events... ugh), we were really excited for a good year this year. Really excited. And holy cow has this year started out really good. We've found incredible red fleshed crab apples in people's backyards that are currently fermenting away into really delicious rose cider.

Now, if you've stopped by the tasting room you might have seen a foraged Dolgo crab apple cider. We had such limited amounts of it because of the poor crop last year but it's a favorite for us to forage, partially because Denver seems to landscape with them all over the city but also because they are delicious and make a great cider.

So as I type this right now, Dan and Travis are off at a few of our favorite spots, foraging Dolgos for us. Pretty exciting! But despite their amazing-ness (sorry Dan, you know I like to make up words), the hard work comes with sorting. Since they are so tiny, we can't be super selective when picking. That's where volunteers come in. Well... now that's where volunteers come in. Previous to this, it was Dan and me and any friends who wanted to hang out and weren't afraid of slimy apples and earwigs.

Since we opened our doors, a number of people have asked us if they could help us out, participate in some way, learn about making cider, etc. So when Dan and I were thinking about how to share our passion with our guests, we thought what better way than sharing slimy apples and fun bugs! :) So we are hosting our first Dolgo sorting party of the season on Sunday, August 26. For our volunteers we will provide breakfast and a shift drink (all of our employees get a complimentary shift drink for each shift... and you will complimentary employees right? ;)). Additionally, we will invite our volunteers to a Dolgo release party where you can buy some of the cider you helped us make at 20% off!
